There is an old saying that wealth rarely makes it through three generations. The first generation builds it. The second holds onto it. The third spends through it.
Most people assume taxes are the reason. They are not, at least not the main one.
The bigger reason is that nobody talked about it.
The first generation usually builds in private. They do not talk about money because money was tight when they started, or because the conversation feels awkward, or because they are not sure the kids are ready for it. The second generation ends up inheriting the wealth without inheriting any of the values or the context that built it. By the third generation, all that is left is a number on a statement, with no real sense of what it was supposed to be for.
The families that break the pattern are the ones that actually talk about it. About what the money is for. About what the family stands for. About how big decisions get made together. The structure matters. The conversation matters just as much.
